How to Create Your Dog’s Personal Space

We all need our own personal space. A spot where we can go and relax. A spot where we can be alone and think. We all have one, and your dog needs one too. Even though your dog loves to go for walks, be touched, and snuggle, he or she also needs a place where they can be left alone. Creating that for your dog is one of the best things you can do for them. Here is how to create a personal space for your dog.

An Awesome Bed

We all love our beds.  They are comfortable, they cradle us, and they give us a great sleep. Your dog deserves the same. When setting up their personal space, put a super comfy bed there so they can retreat and be very relaxed. Dog beds from Pawpedics are designed to be airy, comfortable, and soft.

These beds are perfect for senior dogs who may have an ailment or two, and they are great for younger dogs as a way of enticing them to use their own space. Dogs will go where they are most comfortable, and making that place their personal area, is a great treat for them.

Water

We all need to keep hydrated and so does your dog. When you create their area, put a water bowl in there and make sure the bowl is always full. Your dog will soon come to realize where to go to get water, and when they do, they will take some time in their new sanctuary.

Water is synonymous with good health, and even animals can pick up on that. Their space will then represent the place they go to when they want to be kind to themselves. They will begin to practice good self-care habits.

Surround Them With Their Things

Anything the dog uses should go in this area so that they know their identity. Their harnesses, coats, leashes, and shirts should all live in their space. Those items belong to them after all. Your dog will learn that when you come into their space it is to support them in what they need.

When you grab the leash it will be for exercise and to use the bathroom and to enjoy the great outdoors. Their clothing will be there, which will remind your dog that those items are theirs and they will be able to identify with them.

Toys

Every dog has a toy, bone, or some other item they can’t seem to live without. Put those items in their area. When your dog learns where their items are located, they will return to that place to find them. Once again, these are items that belong to them, so they should be located where the dog can find them and use them.

Some owners like to put one of their own t-shirts in there in order to keep their scent around the dog. This continues the bond between yourself and your beloved pet. Make your pooch feel at home.
